Do people age differently?
Biological age tells how old your body is, and every individual is affected differently by father-time. I bet you didn’t know this one, but every single cell in the body works differently even the organs age differently in the body compared to one another. A good example is a bodybuilder that has been in the game for too long. They could have a very nice and chiseled body but their face can show some aging.
The next type of aging is psychological age or the age that you feel. Depending on what is happening or going on in your life, your psychological age can vary very dramatically.
For example, a middle aged women who first recalls her first love can sound as if she is in her teens again, and a middle-aged man who loss his beloved wife will feel lonely and depressed like an elderly man.
It is nothing new that psychological age can be decreased; you know the saying is “you are as old as you feel.” Now, it’s encouraging to know that aging can be reversed. For example, muscle mass is a key role in maintaining your body’s vitality. It’s quite rare to see the muscular older man, and you notice that those who maintain their muscle mass appear to look a whole lot younger. A classic example is Arnold Swarchenegger; he is past his prime but still has a better body than most twenty year olds.
Muscle mass was once believed to decline with age, but a recent study disapproves of this finding. They put 12 men and women on a weight training program and after three months they could lift heavier than the 25 year old workers! Weight training can be very successful for anyone, even in their nineties! However, regular physical exercise can have many more benefits, and can REVERSE a lot of physical conditions. Some of them include:
- Excess body fat
- Lower metabolic rate
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- Bone density loss
- Reduced aerobic capacity
You don’t have to be a “gym rat” to gradually reap the benefits of going to the gym, but the gym can have a lot of benefits. Just a couple of minutes of walking around each day will do the trick, and the recommendation is thirty minutes per day for five days a week. If you feel that your body is getting beat and you can’t hang with it, then take a break and get back in. Researchers have gathered that the people who lived the longest followed some simple steps. This includes:
- Sleep seven to eight hours per night
- Eat breakfast
- Don’t eat in between meals
- Don’t be too over or under weight
- Do daily physical activity, such as recreation or walking.
- Drink frequently, no more than two drinks per day.
- Don’t smoke (Bet you didn’t know that one)
A study found that a 45 year old man could expect to live another 33 years if he followed this. However, if he followed only three than he would probably die within 22 years.
